New Read

I like to have two books going at the same time. One Christian Living (generally) or Bible Study and the other a Historical Fiction or Autobiography (generally). The “House of Sand of Fog” is my newest, historical fiction pick up. I am just starting the third chapter and am already hooked. The plot revolves around the ownership of an auctioned home and takes place in San Francisco. The two competing families are an Iranian immigrant (a former Imperial pilot) who saves face by wearing a tie to and from his roadside trash pick up job to prevent his family from knowing his sort of work and the other is a single, New England recovering alcoholic, who has been evicted from her paid for, but now auctioned off, home for failing to pay an unlawful business tax. Dubus’ writing style is magnetic. He draws the reader in slowly, bit by bit; tiny pieces of information emerge a little at a time, and the reader is left page turning to assemble this complex storyline. We’ll see how the read finishes out, but as of right now, I’m diggin’ it.
